Polymer-bioactive glass composite scaffolds for hard and soft tissue engineering
Investigator: Dr. Jozef Prachár (Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass (FunGlass), Trencin, Slovakia)
Supervisors: Dr. Liliana Liverani, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
The Center for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass (FunGlass) in Trencin, Slovakia, covers several scientific topics related to glass and glass-ceramic materials. The Institute of Biomaterials at FAU is the international advanced partner in FunGlass project, supporting the activities of the newly established Department of Biomaterials in the FunGlass centre. The aim of this one-year training period (started in September 2018) at the Institute of Biomaterials is to gain experimental expertise in the fabrication and characterization of composite scaffolds utilizing chitosan and bioactive glass particles of different compositions and size for applications in hard and soft tissue engineering. Diverse scaffold fabrication techniques will be investigated, like electrospinning and freeze drying.
