MULTIFUNCTIONAL SCAFFOLDS FOR BONE AND DENTAL TISSUE REGENERATION
Investigator: Dr. Zulema Vargas (Visiting researcher FunGlass Centre, Trencin, Slovakia)
Supervisor: Dr. Liliana Liverani and Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
Dr. Vargas received her PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2016. In recent years, she has been engaged in the field of nanomaterials, designing and developing novel multifunctional nanoplatforms for biomedical applications such as theranostic devices, drug delivery systems, contrast agents for MRI, labels for cell tracking applications, scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration, etc. In 2017, she was granted with the distinction “Level 1 Researcher (SNI1)” by the National System of Researchers of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT, Mexico). In February 2019, she joined _FunGlass (Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass)_, (LINK: _https://www.funglass.eu/_ ) a Centre of Excellence established with suppport of the EU HORIZON 2020 framework and based at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčin (Slovakia). She is currently carrying out an intensive research training at the Institute of Biomaterials, which is one of the international institutional partners in FunGlass. Her project involves the fabrication, characterization and study of three-dimensional multifunctional scaffolds synthesized by 3D printing and electrospinning for bone and dental tissue engineering applications.
